Active Schools involvement video 2013-2017
The fundamental aim of the SKGB Active Schools Network is to offer all children and young
people the opportunities and motivation to adopt active, healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood by introducing them into Karate.
SKGB coaches are responsible for developing and supporting the infrastructure for Karate within the Active Schools programme and wider community. They do this by recruiting, supporting and sustaining a network of coaches and clubs, who in turn deliver Karate sessions during and after school and in the wider community.

Our key outcomes:
The SKGB Active Schools programme is working towards three key aims:
To continue to increase opportunities for all children and young people to be engaged
in Traditional and Sport Karate.To strengthen pathways to participation and performance through sustainable school to club links.To increase the membership and participation
within the SKGB.
Our key areas of focus will be delivered by:
Building a sustainable SKGB coaching network and providing an appropriate infrastructure
to work with Active Schools coordinators within the school and wider community with SKGB coaches. To providing opportunities for all children and young people to participate in Traditional and Sport Karate and enabling the creation of pathways from the school to
SKGB clubs and national level. Increasing participation amongst "hard to reach groups"
by adopting a targeted approach towards:
• Girls and young women
• Children and young people with a disability
• Children and young people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds
• Children and young people in areas of socio-economic disadvantage.
• Children and young people not currently involved in physical activity and sport
We will embed the effective integration, management and delivery of Traditional and Sport Karate within local authorities and the community.

Medal Success in Greece.
Congratulations to Chris Scott and Jonathon Gilmour who both took Bronze medals at the Youth World Cup in Corfu. Chris medalling in the Kata section and Jonathon in Kumite, who followed up his recent medal at world junior level in Turkey.

David Coulter M.B.E.
The Scottish Karate Governing Body is proud to announce that Davy Coulter has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2013 for his services to karate.
Since founding Sport Karate Sakai Karate Davy has consistently coached and nurtured Scottish, British, European and World champions in the sport of karate.
David Coulter 7th Dan is the Chief Instructor of the Sakai Karate Club. He began his Karate journey in 1969 at the Kisan Karate club in Kilmarnock with John Kerr (who has since passed away). He then moved to the Kobe Osaka Karate Club in Glasgow in 1974 where his instructor was the renowned Tommy Morris. Dave later opened a branch of Kobe Osaka with Ivy Rennie. In 1979 Dave left the Kobe Osaka Club and in the same year founded his own club naming it the Sakai Karate Club after an area in Japan.
The Sakai Club began in the Buchanan Centre then moved to the Shanks Hall, then another move to the Arts Guild and finally to the present address, the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, in 1984.
The Sakai Karate Club has also expanded over the years to be an association of clubs under the banner of Sport Karate Sakai. This association is a full member of the Scottish Karate Governing Body. The clubs are throughout Ayrshire (Ayr, Kilmarnock, Darvel, Mauchline, Hunter Centre Kilmarnock)Shortlees (Kilmarnock) and main Dojo St Josephs Liesure Centre Kilmarnock.
His family and Scottish Karate are extremely proud and would like to congratulate Davy in his MBE award.

On behalf of Karate Canada, I am very pleased to invite your Association's members to take part in the 7th Commonwealth Karate Championships 2013, which will be held in Montreal, Canada, from October 11 to 13, 2013.
It is an honor for Karate Canada to be hosting this prestigious event for the first time, and the organizing committee will do its utmost to offer the best facilities and services for all participants.

We are also pleased to announce that online registration for this event is now officially open, via SportData, and will remain open until September 15th, 2013; you may click here in order to register your team and delegation. Please note that one single permission will be given per National Sport Organization, so please be sure that there is only one administrator dealing with the registrations in Sport Data.
