The Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB) is the only Governing Body in Scotland recognised by sportscotland and local authorities. Having 31 associations in membership with over 10,000 members from a wide range of backgrounds ageing from 4yrs to 70+.

The S.K.G.B. started trading as the Scottish Karate Board of Control from 1973 to 1990. It changed its name to the Scottish Karate Board from 1990 to2001and then changed its trading name to Scottish Karate Governing Body in 2001 to 2004.

The Scottish Karate Governing Body was established as a Limited Company by Guarantee on 30th June 2004 and started trading as The Scottish Karate Governing Body Limited on 3rd September 2004 - Company Number SC270068.

SKGB Refereeing Program

Karate Officials Training Course  Kata

Dear colleagues

In line with our development program I can now confirm that the next Kata course will be held on Saturday 3rd February 2007 within the Holytown Community Education Centre Stevenson Street Holytown in North Lanarkshire.

The course will be presented by Terry Pottage 7th Dan and “World Karate Federation” Qualified Karate Official.

Course Times 10.30am till 3.30pm. Refreshment will be provided.

This course is open to all officials who hold a Karate License of an association affiliated to the SKGB regardless of their Officials Qualification.

Officials are asked to bring their SKGB Karate Officials Record Books, which are of course now mandatory. New officials will be able to apply for a Record Book on the day.

Casual dress will suffice however a Karate GI will be required for the practical aspect of the course.

A Kata exam will be included in the course contents.

Doug James will be presenting a refereeing course on Saturday 7th October at 10.00am within Holytown Community Education Centre in North Lanarkshire. The course if free to all who wish to attend.

The start time is at 1000hrs and will begin with a 2 hour theory session (there will be a theory exam on this course).

Lunch is at 1200hrs and a refreshment will be provided.

1300 - 1500 will be a practical based input.

For that purpose I would like to invite you to bring students for the purposes of fighting during the practical exercise. The students will have access to a seperate hall and when not being used for the practical exercise it is hoped that they could turn this into an informal, all styles trainning session.( Bags, focus mits, pads etc will all be available.)

While numbers for the referreing course is not restricted, if you are able to provide students please reply to me with the numbers you intend bringing.

Juniors are welcome however i would suggest no beginners.

Referees are asked to attend in refereeing uniform however if there are any new people who you would wish to attend casual dress will suffice.

Holytown community education centre is on Stevenson Street in Holytown. From the M8 leave at the junction sign posted for Chapplehall, Calderbank and Holytown. Eastbound, the junction after eurocentral, westbound, the junction after Newhouse. Down Holytown main street to the traffic lights and turn left. The building is 150 yards on the right hand side of the road. Car parking is directly accross the street in front.
